Rush Process Festival of Handcrafted Animation
November 17-19, 2017
This Fall, the DIY animation mothership returns with a full weekend of mind-bending animation screenings, hands-on workshops and parties, this time just on the autumnal heels of ZineFest Houston, instead of during the height of Texas summer heat. Filmmakers — Our call for entries opened March 27! We can’t reveal all the details just yet, but here’s a taste:
International Shorts Competition
Handcrafted animated shorts from all over the world.
GIF Photo Booth
Last year’s Dragonframe GIF Photo Booth returns!
Texas Animation Spotlight
A sidebar screening highlighting local animators.
Snippety Snack-Time Social
A collage-focused party and networking event.
Improv Meets Animation Workshop
It’s back! Inspired by Beta Theater’s long-running Make-A-Movie Night (and the success of last year’s event), scribblers, writers and improvisers will join forces to rapidly write and produce a collaborative animated movie using paper, pens, scissors, and multiple handcrafted techniques.
Mechanical Labor Mini-Party
A collaborative art event in which local Houston animators and out-of-town visitors enlist festival attendees of all ages to help ink and paint shots from their current, paper-based works-in-progress.
Found, Foraged, Filmed
After a brief, inspirational screening, Houston animators Traci Lavois Thiebeaux and Dave Merson Hess will lead a bayou hike and hands-on animation workshop focused on the mystical possibilities of creating stop-motion animations with found objects.
Criss-Crossing Laser Bath
In which a top-secret mystery VJ will spin 45s on the 1s and 2s while projecting psychedelic animations and the raddest GIFs you’ve never seen.
